Science & Brain Fitness Classes

Our Brain Fitness classes at Jennings McCall take a novel and enjoyable approach to improving cognitive function in adults.

As the brain grows older, it gradually loses speed, accuracy and recording strength for processing information from the senses. This results in a progressive loss of memory and other cognitive abilities. The Science & Brain Fitness Classes help speed up brain function, improve accuracy and information processing.

Led by Ashley -- an engaging "teacher" and Jennings McCall employee -- the class of approximately 18 "students" (residents) meets every Friday for about an hour to have fun and improve brain function. Residents perform skits, discuss current events, memorize quotes and give presentations to the class.

There is never the same class twice. Sometimes the residents have ideas for projects. Bob T. worked on a project to write a story about his life. He said this really helped his brain because it made him recall things he had done as a child and he listed events that have occurred during his life. The residents enjoy the classes and even the homework they are sometimes assigned.

The main focus of the classes is the wellness of the residents. Since the Friday morning classes reinforce socialization skills, this also engages the brain and helps the residents feel more connected within the Jennings McCall community. A healthy brain and happy life equal a happier and healthier person.

"The Brain Fitness activity provides an opportunity for social interaction among the residents. When one is able to match a person with a name, it's easier to start a conversation." - Jim S.

"It gives me a sense of community. It is also entertaining and fun!" - Rosemary S.

"I look forward to our Friday meeting and always have my lessons done. Ashley is a very good teacher." - Helen M.
